Why Is the Film, Out of Darkness, One of the Most Important Films You‘ve Worked On?

Host Rachel Mains and Host Jamie Daniel

About Brittany Yost:

Brittany Yost (Director) is an award-winning director and PGA (Producers Guild of America) producer whose career in film began at the age of 19. Over 15 years, she has worked on more than 20 films in the faith space, including Redeeming Love, The Case for Christ, and The Blind. Brittany’s journey is defined by a deep commitment to telling stories that inspire change, particularly those surrounding difficult and often overlooked topics. Her work documenting the realities of sex trafficking across 13 countries, including living within a shelter for survivors, has given her a unique perspective on trauma and healing. “In 2017, I was struggling with my mental health after moving across the country with my husband,” says Brittany.

"Being isolated in a new city, far from friends and family, only heightened my anxiety and depression, and I wasn’t honest with anyone that I needed help. By what felt like divine intervention, Stormie’s book landed on my desk and I couldn’t put it down. Through her vulnerability and honesty in sharing her own struggles, her words helped me recognize and confront the brokenness I had yet to face—all through the power of prayer. When Stormie and I eventually met, it marked the beginning of a 7-year collaboration to explore God’s purpose for this movie. Her books have already impacted millions, offering prayerful guidance and encouragement to navigate life’s challenges. This film provides an opportunity to introduce her story to a new generation and address the ongoing prevalence of trauma in today’s world. It is our prayer that this project inspires meaningful conversations and provides tools for others to find their healing path forward the way it has to me.”

About the film:

How does a divorced, abused and suicidal woman become one of the most successful authors in history, redeeming marriages all over the globe? This incredible true and vulnerable story of God's healing and redemption, starts before Stormie Omartian’s successful book career. In 1970’s Hollywood, Stormie was a young and ambitious actress, navigating a path filled with career setbacks and a tumultuous marriage. Amidst her journey, she encountered Michael Omartian, a music producer who sparked her spiritual curiosity. As she grappled with accepting God’s unconditional love, Stormie was forced to confront her past traumas to break free from the darkness that consumed her. Through struggles and triumphs, Stormie's story explores themes of faith, forgiveness, and the unwavering pursuit of love and redemption through the power of prayer, culminating in a legacy of nearly 44 million books sold worldwide.
